Past U-M President Mary Sue Coleman
Kenneth Coleman
Past University of Michigan President Mary Sue Coleman wanted to ensure that more students travel abroad to experience other cultures firsthand, seek solutions to world problems and learn to thrive in a dynamic global environment. Putting significant resources behind the mission, Coleman and her husband, Kenneth M. Coleman, donated $1 million toward scholarships for U-M undergraduate and graduate students to support international study, internships, service work and other opportunities.
Eligibility
Undergraduate students in UM-sponsored study abroad programs or programs encompassing other global experiences, and students enrolled in any graduate or professional program for international experiences directly related to their degree. Applicants may be assessed on demonstrated financial need.
Selection Criteria
The University of Michigan Office of Financial Aid will review all applications and select the students who best meet this scholarship's eligibility criteria.

The application requires the following: Submission of online M-Compass application form, including an explanation of your global experience, location, program information and a brief personal statement. We also ask for a cost breakdown for Graduate students OR Undergraduates in a Non-Credit Program.
Scholarship recipients will be notified by
July 31 Fall Term and Academic Year (Fall/Winter Terms) November 30 Winter Term January 31 Short-term Winter Programs March 31 Spring/Summer Terms
The number and dollar amount of the scholarships will vary, depending upon the annual income from the endowment fund.
