Summer Research & Internship Grants

Overview

Program in International and Comparative Studies (PICS) announces a call for applications from undergraduate students at the University of Michigan who have declared the International Studies major or minor and are planning to intern or conduct research abroad during summer 2020.

Eligibility

Students in their last year of study (graduating in Winter 2020 or Spring/Summer 2020) are not eligible to apply. Project date must be between May 1, 2019 and August 31, 2020.

Must be declared with the International Studies major or minor.

Application Procedures

Click on the Apply Now button above to begin your application in M-Compass. In the M-Compass application, students will submit the following application materials:

  • Online M-Compass application questionnaire
  • Uploaded Statement of purpose (1-3 pages) including proposed time period, institutional affiliation, your reasons for pursuing the project, how this experience will contribute to your career goals; and budget
  • Online faculty recommendation - requested from M-Compass
  • Upload of curriculum vitae or resume
  • Upload of your unofficial U-M transcript. Additionally, a written report based on the project will be required by August 31, 2020. Grant recipients will be provided with instructions to complete University travel requirements within M-Compass.

Need to Know

The Program in International and Comparative Studies (PICS) seeks applications from International Studies majors or minors for grants ranging from $500 to $2,000 towards summer research or internships abroad. Applicants for research grants may be at preliminary or more advanced stages of their research; applicants for internships should be prepared to identify the venue for their internship in a governmental agency, business, or non-governmental institution abroad, and must have documentation showing internship is secured. Funding can be used for air travel, local transportation, room and board, research expenses, fees for educational opportunities, and visa fees.

Dates & Deadlines

Application deadline is Friday, March 13, 2020. Recipients will be notified of decision by Friday April 3, 2020.
